Coca Cola-Powered Mobile Phone by Daizi Zheng, Cell Phone that runs on coke soda, Sugar-powered gadgets, bio-batteryChemical waste produced by batteries is a one serious matter that adds up to the global threat. Almost every segment of our lifestyle is immersed into electronic gadgets like cell phones and laptops.

There are a lot of "pro-green" inventors that concentrated into finding ways and solution to reduce our garbage production. One of them is Daizi Zheng who conceptualized for Nokia a mobile phone that runs on coke. On a more technical side, the phone is able to extract energy from the soda and generates electricity because of the carbohydrate (sugar) content from enzymes that act as catalyst.

Zheng said that the traditional litium batteries are way too expensive than his invention. Well, that's because coke (any sweet soda) is everywhere (laughs). And by the way, this bio-battery can last up to four times than the traditional Li-ions.

I went to my former school just this afternoon and requested a copy of my credentials as I will need them in the processing of my possible promotion at work. As I was walking through the streets just outside my school, I happen to pass by the old Sapang Balen creek and I was so surprised to see that the garbage-filled creek way back years ago is now unbelievably trash free. Well not actually free from trash but it is way better than before - and still improving. I am now convinced that it really is a creek because all these years, I always have the impression that it is a dump site for garbage.

Well thanks to the Holy Rosary Parish led by our beloved Bishop, Father Pablo 'Ambo' David. He spearheaded this campaign this 2009 if I'm not mistaken. Now, along with the many volunteers, every segment of the creek is now being revived and cleaned on a regular basis. When I attended the mass few weeks ago, Father Ambo was very proud to announce the overwhelming success of the project.

I salute my fellow Kapampangans for actively participating and supporting such campaign. I hope this kind of initiative will continue to live in our next generations to come. I will take a picture of it next time so you can see it.

Typhoon Ondoy effects of CLimate ChangeThe past few weeks, there have been a lot of thunder storms and strong typhoons that came into the country’s area of responsibility. And all of us were witnesses to the damage it brought to the whole nation. It left the country with a scar that will forever be marked in every people.

All of us are starting to get worried on this strange weather activity. This probably is one of the effects of climate change which is so disturbing. We never know what lies ahead. What we can do right now is to protect the environment and always think first on the consequences of the things that we are about to do.

Remember that whatever we sow today will be reaped tomorrow. Let us not put the generations to come at risk. Start today. Start from yourself.
